How Can I Afford To Get My Child Help When People Tell Me That A Good Maths Tutor Will Cost $45/hour?

A good maths tutor will ideally have a load of experience teaching kids for a good number of years in the classroom across all abilities. They’ll be able to teach difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand way. And they’ll know the difference between what material is examinable and what are just "syllabus fillers" – I know it took me about eight years of teaching before I fully understood this critical point myself.

So if you can actually find a good maths tutor, you’re ahead of most people. At this point you’ll need to understand how much help your child will need. Research has proven (and you probably already know this) that it’s far more effective to do a smaller amount of study and repeat this 2-3 times a week than it is to do one large chunk of study once a week. It’s the same with maths tutoring.

Why 3 x 20 minutes Is More Than One Hour

Your child’s results will improve much faster if they can get help for 20-25 minutes at a time, and do this 3 times a week than if they get a one-hour session each week. And the rate of retention of this work is much higher as well.
